Spring is in the air!!!!

Yeah you heard me right, spring is in the air now, and until otherwize decided. The snow is slowly but surely leaving and hopefully will be all gone before the weekend. In celebration of the snow conceding I did wear high heals today, which is of course the only thing to do as a spring celebration.

The Peacemaker

I got the very interesting task the other day to make 2 cats that hate each other make peace. I have actually had this task before in my life and it worked that time, so of course I have started to think of myself as "the animal peacemaker" (would be a great show on Animal Planet :)) Anyways the ritual started with the clipping of toenails, which is a very crusial part of the peacemaking process. Then the cats were put in the bathtub together (no water) and prevented to get out (any confined space will do). The idea was that eventually they would give up the grudges and make peace, and in the case of a cat fight nobody would actually get injured. The outcome on the other hand was not that they actually made any peace, they just hissed at each other for about an hour, they also realized that we were not allowing them to go anywhere so needless to try that. Eventually they both decided that no point in doing anything at all and closed there eyes and pretended to sleep. In that mode still every sound would produce a hiss from either of them and when one hissed the other one hissed too. This is still a work in progress and a few more "sessions" are needed for progress to show or for the whole thing to be deemed a lost cause.

Winter depression

I had an early class this morning (10am :)) and it is definately not getting easier waking up in the mornings, even as weeks pass since I came home from L.A. And as if waking up isn't difficult enough, actually leaving the house is almost worse. I actually think I need an astonaut uniform to handle the cold here. Today it is -9°C (15°F) and about 5" of snow everywhere. The snowfall in January has been in total 10" and we're only just half way through January.
Sunglasses are a must this time of year, as they are good in the summer time, they are a total necessity in the winter time because the sun only reaches half way up in the sky, not high enough for the sunscreens in my car to do any good and (thank god) not low enough to stay below the horizon, so it's right there in your eyes, unless it's a cloudy day of course.
On a more positive note, the days are getting longer and it actually is only pitchblack until about 8:45 in the morning, then twilight takes 2 hours and it is fully bright by 11. In the evening it starts to get dark at about 4 and again twilight takes 2 hours.

School has started

It's pretty cold today, there is snow outside, well actually there is ice outside and temperatures below 30°F .... brrrrr. I went to school today, got myself a corner desk which is good because I am spending alot of time there in the next few months. The day has been quite uneventful except that somebody had the great idea to put a computer mouse in jello and now everybody waits in excitement for the mouse owner to show up.

Workday is almost over and of course sunset was a few hours ago. I dream of palmtrees *sigh*.

Happy New Year!

Hi

I´m back after a LONG holiday, I think I set a personal record in not turning on my computer in almost 2 weeks !!!

I went to school today, I tried to wake up early but I am still so stuck on LA time that waking up before noon (4 am LA time) was totally impossible. If this will not get any better I will have to take drastic measures and do something like not sleep one night and stay awake until the next evening and see what that does. Even if I go to bed at 2 am I do not fall asleep until 5am which is really getting annoying.

The holidays were really nice, spent alot of time in my pajamas ... which is one of my favorite things :) Also went to alot of dinner parties and ate among other things rotten fish (ray not shark) and smoked pork ..... mmmmmm.

New Years Eve was also very nice, HERE is a video that i took from my mom's balcony about 10 min before midnight, sound is a must to hear all the bombings. This is very typical for any neighborhood in Reykjavik for New Years, the view actually was a bit limited due to smoke because the weather was actually very still and since there is a firework show in EVERY garden in the neighborhood.
